professional, dedicated, enthusiastic Trainer Andrea Dannegger

Andrea Dannegger

Born in 1966 in San Francisco (California), Andrea says she most certainly inherited her love of animals from her mother (photo right). Dogs and animals were always part of the family. Growing up, she shared her home with her parents, 7 brothers, 4 sisters, a Great Dane, a German Shepherd and a menagerie of smaller pets.

She started painting and drawing animals from a very young age and continues to do pet portraits and Chinese brush paintings today (www.animalart.ch).

At school she excelled in languages, life sciences and sociology and at 21 she got her adult education certification as an English teacher and moved to Switzerland. She worked 8 years at inlingua Basel, first as an English teacher, and later as the Director of Studies. Then, in 2000 she became self-employed and  taught English for employees of Novartis Pharma and other companies in the area.

At that time she was spending most of her free time painting and drawing animals, but she missed having a dog of her own. In 2003 her sister and brother-in-law invited her to San Diego to help them train their two dogs and also arranged for her to do a month of practical training with renowned dog trainer, Lee Wells(www.wellsdogs.com).

In 2012 Novartis decided to outsource their language training department and Andrea was presented with an opportunity for a career change. She longed  to combine her love of teaching with her love of dogs. Many of the dog training institutions in Switzerland required their students to currently own a dog and together she and her husband decided that a Coton de Tuléar was the right breed for them.

Andrea completed the obligatory SKN Theory course for new dog owners in Switzerland, read Ian Dunbar’s fantastic books: “Before You Get Your Puppy” and “After You Get Your Puppy”, bought and studied Michael Ellis’s brilliant DVD on Marker Training called “The Power of Training Dogs with Food” and the Leerburg.com  DVD “Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months.” During that time, she also researched and contacted several breeders and finally chose one in Germany. In August 2012 Andrea brought home  “McMell’s Savannah Sky” aka “Lily”.

In 2014 Andrea and Lily traveled  to Los Angeles for 2 months to take Agility training lessons from Terry Simons from “Flying Dog Agility” (http://flyingdogagility.com).

In 2015 Andrea completed her Swiss Adult Education certification (SVEB) alongside her certification training as a dog instructor at Certodog (www.certodog.ch), followed by  the SKN (obligatory dog owner training) instructor certification in December of that year.

Having experienced the typical dog training courses offered outdoors in wind, rain, snow as well as in the heat and humidity of summer, she envisioned providing a safer, more comfortable environment for year-round dog training.  In February 2016, she opened Dannegger-Training Indoor Dog School in Allschwil - one of the only indoor dog schools offering training in English in the region.
