About Me

Born in 1966 in San Francisco (California), I most certainly inherited my love of animals from my mother (photo right). Dogs and other animals were always part of the family. Growing up, I shared my home with my parents, 7 brothers, 4 sisters, a Great Dane, a German Shepherd and a menagerie of smaller pets.

I started painting and drawing animals from a very young age and when I find some time, I still do commissioned pet portraits and Chinese brush paintings. (

At  21, I got my adult education certification as an English teacher and moved to Switzerland. I worked 8 years at inlingua Basel, first as an English teacher, and later as the Director of Studies. Then, in 2000 I became self-employed, taught English for employees of Novartis Pharma and other companies in the area.

At that time I was spending most of my free time painting and drawing animals, but I missed having pets of my own. In 2003 my sister and brother-in-law invited me to San Diego to help them train their two dogs and also arranged for me to do a month of practical training with renowned dog trainer, Lee Wells (

In 2012 Novartis decided to outsource their language training department and I was presented with an opportunity for a career change. I longed  to combine my love of teaching with my love of dogs. Many of the dog training institutions in Switzerland required enrolling participants to own a dog and my husband and I decided that a Coton de Tuléar was the perfect breed for us.

I completed the obligatory SKN Theory course for new dog owners in Switzerland, read Ian Dunbar’s fantastic books: “Before You Get Your Puppy” and “After You Get Your Puppy”, bought and studied Michael Ellis’s brilliant DVD on Marker Training called “The Power of Training Dogs with Food” and the  DVD “Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months.” During that time, I also researched and contacted several breeders and finally chose one in Germany. In August 2012 I brought home  “McMell’s Savannah Sky” aka “Lily”.

In 2014 Lily and I traveled  to Los Angeles for 2 months to take Agility training lessons from Terry Simons from “Flying Dog Agility” ( It was there that a clear plan was made to become a certified dog trainer and open an indoor dog school.

In 2015 I completed my Swiss Adult Education certification (SVEB) alongside me certification training as a dog instructor at Certodog (, followed by  the SKN (obligatory dog owner training) instructor certification in December of that year.

Having experienced with Lily the usual dog training courses offered outdoors in wind, rain, snow as well as in the heat and humidity of summer, I  envisioned providing a safer, more comfortable environment for year-round dog training. In February 2016, I opened Dannegger-Training Indoor Dog School in Allschwil - one of the only indoor dog schools offering training in English in the region.
